Visit to a Local Primary School

We will embark on a scenic 30-minute drive from town to arrive at a quaint and charming local Tongan primary school to explore the Heart of Tonga.

Join us for a heartwarming visit to a local primary school in Tonga, where you'll have the opportunity to meet the children and see their classrooms.

This school serves some of the poorest families in the area, and the children are in great need of stationery and educational equipment.

During your visit, you'll meet dedicated teachers and witness the resilience and spirit of the students. As a special treat, the children will sing a few songs for us, showcasing their talent and enthusiasm.

Stationery donations are warmly welcomed by the school, and your contributions will make a significant difference in the lives of these young learners.

This visit is not only an eye-opening experience but also a chance to make a positive impact on the local community.

*Visit only available Monday to Friday outside School Holidays, alternative experience will be offered on those dates

Ancient Mystery: Ha'amonga 'a Maui Trilithon

We will depart from the school and drive approximately 30min to reach Ha’amonga ‘a Maui, where you can explore this fascinating site and learn about its rich history and cultural significance.

Prepare to be intrigued by the enigmatic Ha’amonga ‘a Maui, a monumental structure consisting of three mammoth 40-ton coral limestone slabs, steeped in centuries-old legend. This trilithon features three paths that lead through the shrub to the beach, where at certain times of the year, the sun shines directly down the path. It is believed to have functioned as a seasonal calendar, marking solstices and equinoxes by aligning with the position of the sunrise, akin to a Polynesian rendition of the renowned Stonehenge.

Constructed around 1200 AD by King Tu'itatui, Ha’amonga ‘a Maui is often referred to as the "Burden of Maui" and holds significant cultural and historical importance in Tongan heritage. The site is a testament to the sophisticated astronomical knowledge and engineering skills of the ancient Polynesians.

Anahulu Cave Pool Deep Dive

Our final destination for the day is the Anahulu Cave Pool. Approximately 30 minute drive from the Ha'amonga.

The entrance to the cave is accessed via small steps in a rock face overlooking a picturesque coral-protected beach. While the entry may seem daunting at first, inside, you'll be amazed by the large cathedral-like ceilings.

You can explore further to discover an 8-meter-deep freshwater pool—be the first to take a dip!

While you enjoy your swim, be enchanted by the beautiful voices of local Tongan singers echoing through the cave, their angelic tones adding to the magical atmosphere.

For those feeling adventurous, we'll also guide you through the unlit sections of the cave with underwater torches, providing a truly unique experience. If this isn't your preference, feel free to relax in the first cave or enjoy a swim on the beach out front.
