What to expect

Your knowledgeable English-speaking guide will pick you up in a comfortable air-conditioned van from anywhere on the mainland, so you arrive at Oholei beach resort prior to 8pm

As you drive into Oholei down the flame lit path it feels like you are about to experience something magical.

You need to walk down a steep, uneven staircase which winds down to the beach below. Take off your shoes at the bottom of the stairs as its all sand from
here.

You will be right on the beach and walk past a rock face to the open-air sand floor restaurant.

Your guide will seat you at a table and you can order some cocktails before the dinner starts.

The cheeky owner of Oholei will usually make a speech and tell you about the history of Oholei. He will also
say a pray before dinner and play some lovely music.

Each table will be invited to go and line up at the buffet where you will get your banana stem which will be your plate for tonight. You can line up at either side of the buffet and the servers will fill up your plate!

Head back as many times as you like for your favourites!

After dinner you will be invited into the Ancient Hina Cave for the special fire dance show.

Your guide will usher you in and try and get you a seat right up the front. First you will be welcomed with traditional dancing from the Polynesian islands. It is custom in Tonga that you tip the dances by placing notes on their oiled-up shoulders or arms. This is not compulsory but appreciated and lots of fun so make you have small notes on hand. We recommend having 10-20 Tongan dollars in small 1-2 notes so you can tip each dancer throughout the show.

Lastly the lights will turn off and
the fire dancers will come out and wow you! Please do not try and stick notes on the fire dancers as its dangerous as they are swinging around their fire stick! You can tip them after them show if you like.

And the end of the show your guide will get you back to your accommodation. The show usually finished around 10pm.
